Download Docket Finder

A lightweight menu bar app that opens docket folders instantly on our file share. Type a docket number, hit Return, and Finder opens the right folder.

• Version: 1.5 (internal release)

• Platform: macOS 12 Monterey or later

• Availability: Internal use only (company network required)

If you see a “can’t be opened” warning, right-click the app in Finder and choose “Open” once to approve it.

What’s new in 1.5

This release supports our new “J” docket system while preserving the legacy structure. It also adds quality-of-life improvements.

• Dual docket support (no toggle needed)

   • Type digits only (e.g., “123456”)

   • The app automatically searches both:

      • Legacy: a-<all-but-last-two> (e.g., a-1234)

      • New J: J + zero-padded 6 digits (e.g., J123456) grouped under a-J1234

• Conflict resolution

   • If both a legacy and a J docket exist with the same number, you’ll be prompted to choose which one to open.

• Recent dockets

   • A list of your last 10 opened dockets appears in the popover for quick access.

   • Recents are stored locally on your Mac.

• Auto-focus on open

   • Clicking the menu bar icon (or the Dock icon) opens the popover and focuses the input automatically—just start typing.

• Reliability improvements

   • Better handling of folder access permissions; the app remembers your selected root “dockets” folder across launches.

First-time setup

1. Click the Docket Finder icon in the menu bar.

2. Click “Select Root ‘dockets’ Folder”.

3. Choose the top-level “dockets” folder on the fileshare.

4. The app will remember this selection for future use.

Tip: If the server path changes, reselect the root to restore access.

How to use

• Open the popover (menu bar icon or click the Dock icon).

• Start typing the docket number (digits only, e.g., “123456”).

• Press Return or click “Open Folder”.

• If both legacy and J versions exist, pick the one you want in the prompt.

• Use the “Recent dockets” list for quick reopen.

Requirements

• macOS 12 Monterey or later

• Access to the company fileshare (VPN if remote)

• Permissions to the “dockets” folder

Troubleshooting

• “Root folder not selected”

   • Click “Select Root ‘dockets’ Folder” again and choose the top-level dockets folder.

• “Folder not found”

   • Confirm the docket number and try again.

   • If you’re unsure which system it’s in, just enter the digits; the app checks both.

• Nothing happens when I try to open

   • Make sure the fileshare is mounted and reachable.

   • If the path changed, reselect the root folder.

Release notes (1.5)

• Added automatic support for new “J” dockets (J + 6 digits, grouped under a-Jxxxx)

• Preserved legacy docket support

• Conflict prompt when both versions exist

• Added persistent “Recent dockets” list (last 10)

• Auto-focus input when opening the popover

• Improved reliability when remembering folder access

Version 1.5.1 (patch)

This patch focuses on UI reliability on macOS Sequoia and general polish. No changes to how you use Docket Finder — just type the docket digits and go.

What’s fixed

• Sequoia popover clipping

   • The “Recent dockets” list now scrolls and the popover has more room, preventing the top/bottom from being cut off.

   • Ensures the search field and “Open Folder” button remain visible and usable, even with many recent items.
